In 2024, RTTM Community Center purchased 4656 Canton St., a 10,800 sq. ft. Historic Landmark with adjacent land, for renovation into a comprehensive arts, workforce development, and community programming hub.
This space, designed initially by Spier & Gehke in 1915, holds historical and cultural significance. It was featured in the July 1919 issue of Michigan Architect & Engineer. It is located in the Gratiot-Grand Neighborhood, minutes from Eastern Market, Indian Village, and Downtown Detroit. The Que-munity Center is a multi-functional venue featuring a concert hall, community center, and professional office spaces. It serve as a critical resource for residents, offering diverse programming such as the Que Blackout Youth Theater, QueR Code Digital Literacy Program, and the Q to C-Suite initiative, introducing youth to BIPOC executive leadership and entrepreneurship from leaders at Fortune 5000 companies. These programs aim to bridge gaps in arts access, digital skills, and leadership development while fostering trust and collaboration in the community.
Beyond these core programs, the Que-munity Center housed within the space provides essential services such as Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) classes, health fairs, financial literacy workshops, and specialized physical therapy training, promoting holistic well-being for youth and families. Through the Que-munity Center, RTTMCC is committed to creating a sustainable space that uplifts underserved communities, empowering them with the tools and opportunities to thrive.
At the RTTM Community Center, we believe everyone deserves a level playing field. That's why we created our "Third Space," The Fox on Gratiot, to provide vital opportunities to our community that are often denied due to economic and mobility barriers.
Here, we offer access to digital and financial empowerment resources, art enrichment, and soft skills education, all in a welcoming environment. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel secure and right at home. It's upsetting to see people marginalized or made to feel unwelcome in other affluent spaces. We've heard stories of residents feeling out of place and even being denied proper assistance. That's why we've trained our students to not only be technically proficient but also to offer a high level of professional, compassionate support.
The Fox on Gratiot is a space for everyone. It's a place where families can enjoy amenities they might not otherwise be able to afford. It's also an affordable, beautiful, and safe venue for neighbors and non-profit organizations to host events, celebrations, and meetings. We understand the high cost of hosting events in Detroit, venues are often either too small and lack support or are too large and expensive. Our space fills this critical need, providing a perfect option for the community. We're proud to offer this space and the expert assistance that comes with it, because it's exactly what Detroit needs.
